FCAT EXPLORER!
The information regarding FCAT Explorer was reviewed in class today. Please encourage your child to begin the program as soon as possible. Each student should have their username and password information. My goal is for the students to complete at least one planet per week. They may write the titles of the selections they read on FCAT Explorer as part of their reading log. There are a total of twelve 3rd grade planets. As I mentioned at Open House, if the students are having difficulties with the program, they may be automatically dropped into the 2nd Grade review section. They will then need to finish that section before returning to the 3rd grade planets. Please encourage your child to keep up with the program. Deadlines will be given periodically and a grade for FCAT Explorer completion will be given at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
AR-Accelerated Reader
New goals will be going home with the students next week. Please encourage them to continue reading and taking AR tests. Any test taken during the 2nd Quarter will be counted towards their new goal. The students that met 100% or 200% of their goal for the 1st Quarter will be visiting the Silver Palms AR store next week. Great job!
As always,
Thank you for your continuous support!

Reading Update
Hello! We began our Reading Fluency Program today. Your child should have taken home a sheet entitled "The Hole to China (Part One)". Please have them practice reading the sheet orally each evening and time them for one minute. The goal is to have them read the passage by the end of the week fluently with few errors. Please have them keep the fluency sheet in their homework folders. Our parent volunteer will have them do the second read on either Thursday or Friday. The students will need their original sheet. Fluency will be further explained at Open House on Wednesday, October 10th. Please continue to have your child read for AR and their reading log. The children received their October reading log today. Thanks for your help!

Reading Update
The students were given their Accelerated Reader goals this week. A label with their AR information and point goal was placed in their agendas. Please encourage your child to read and complete their AR tests in a timely manner. Students may take tests before school and during their Computer Lab Special. The students must meet or exceed their goal by Thursday, October 25th.
The following link will lead you to the Accelerated Reader website in order to help you determine the levels and point values of books you have purchased or checked out at your local library.

The students were also given their first monthly reading log which was explained in class. Please make sure your child reads at least twenty minutes on the dates posted. Also, each entry should have a parent initial and a one sentence comment on what was read that evening.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation.
Good luck and happy reading!
